Oh man. What a crazy few weeks it’s been. It seems like only yesterday I was swimming off the beach in Southampton, and now I’m back to swimming in assignments. This school year so far has been intense, but so great. I’m growing so much closer to the girls I get to call friends and am enjoying all of my classes so much. While school’s been great, I definitely have been loving my weekends. Since school started, every weekend has been completely filled with events, so this past long weekend, I was so excited to take a much needed break, and celebrate my brother’s birthday.
My brother Gabriel’s birthday always falls on Columbus Day weekend, so we always take the opportunity of the long weekend to do something special. This year, instead of lounging around at home while my parents bought gifts, I decided to take Gabriel out on a mini “sibling date”.
Our adventures began at Bloomingdales, with plans to go to Forty Carrots on the 7th floor (which by the way, is honestly phenomenal). We soon realized however, that our grand plans of smoothie goodness were not entirely possible because of the colossal line emerging from the restaurant. Yeah, we would’ve been there for hours. Something that both Gabriel and myself were not all too keen for. On our way out of Bloomingdales though, we just so happened to stumble across the Christmas section.
If there’s anyone that loves Christmas as much as me, it for sure is Gabriel. So you can probably imagine how excited we both were at this sight. We were both bubbling with excitement and may or may not have performed full covers of our favorite Christmas songs (with fully choreographed dances)… HA!
Can we please just take a moment to appreciate how grown up he is? I’m not sure how much more of this I can take.
This kid’s love for Nutcrackers is serious business. I was lucky to walk away without having bought him at least 10.
From Bloomingdales, we b-lined straight for Sprinkles. With news that the Cupcake ATM was broken, we decided to get one of the infamous Sprinkles Shakes instead. If you’ve never had one of these, fair warning, they are a lot! And when I say a lot, I mean A LOT! It literally had an entire cupcake blended in it. Yep. An entire cupcake. You can probably now understand why we both felt so sick after it.
When you realize that maybe a large milkshake wasn’t a good idea…
OK, I don’t know if this is just a younger sibling thing, or if Gabriel exclusively holds this power, but I swear literally every time he asks me for something, I cave and do whatever he wants. It sounds ridiculous I know but I can’t help it. This kid is too good! With this in mind, I totally went against my own will and bought him and I tickets to see Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life, a movie in which I had no interest in other than the fact that Lauren Graham aka Lorelei Gilmore aka my queen was in it. Nonetheless, we made it to the movies, only to be stuck behind a group of at least 80 elderly people from a nearby retirement home, and then eventually realize that we were in the complete wrong theater. Yeah, that totally happened. BUT, we did make it… Eventually. To make up for the confusion, I promised Gabriel a huge slurpee and fries (two of his all-time faves). But I think that my “good-sister” points went down a little when I ushered him into the girls bathroom saying “there’s no one in here”, only to be greeted by a group of girls around his age. Yeah, he was totally mortified.
Even after all our chaos we finally did make it into the theater, and after encountering many confused parents who couldn’t find their seats and a short 30 minute nap on my part (lol), the movie was actually pretty cute, and I was happy that Gabriel was happy.
I love my brother and I am so glad that we have such a good relationship that we can hang out together and genuinely have a good time. If you have siblings, I encourage you to spend more time with them, and maybe even go on a little adventure with them. The relationship between siblings is so unique and special, and should never be taken for granted.
Hope you have a great day!
