For the past several years, I have seen countless pictures on Instagram of people apple picking and boy has it looked wonderful! So, after two years of missing out on what looked like the most magical experience, I finally went and had my own crazy apple picking adventures.
My family, along with several other families, planned this trip a few weeks back. But, even so, the reality of New York City took it’s toll and made the most simple things, such as getting a car, beyond difficult. Even so, we navigated the situation and after a few hours of figuring things out, we finally set off and embarked on our journey.
One thing that I can never quite get used to is how quickly the landscape changes once you leave the city. Just an hour and a half out of the center of Manhattan, we found ourselves in a small family farm upstate that honestly looked like a movie set. There was a huge play area for kids, corn maze, tractor rides, go-karts, pumpkin patch, apple trees, and endless locations for some awesome Instagram’s! It was the most incredible little oasis. With the color of the changing leaves, crisp breeze, and smell of pumpkin flavored foods of all sorts, we found ourselves in a ‘Fall Wonderland’.
We climbed trees, got lost in the corn maze, ate an unhealthy amount of apples & cider donuts, threw apples at each other, fed some goats, took some pretty awesome photos, tried to teach Americans how to play cricket (that was interesting), and basically just had the greatest day! I am so blessed to do life with so many God-filled people of enormous faith. Adopting American traditions and customs has always been fun, but this was next level awesome! If you haven’t gone apple picking yet, I encourage you to grab some friends and get out there! It is SO worth it!
Hurds Family Farm, ya did good! ‘Till next year!
